Retirement villages update: Institute win

The Institute has welcomed the announcement that an extension has been granted for transitioning control of a retirement village following advocacy on the issue.

An extension to the period for scheme operators to transition control of a retirement village to a new scheme operator is now extended beyond November 2020 for a further two years. This will allow a consistent and industry supported framework as well as avoid additional tumult for residents at this difficult time.

The Institute has also been active in contributing to the:

  • Independent review of timeframes for exit payments in Queensland retirement villages
  • Key issues affecting dispute resolution in retirement villages and residential parks
  • Resident meetings fact sheets
  • Information around rapid response to COVID-19 incidents.

The Institute has also strongly advocated for seniors to have access to the HomeBuilder grant but has not been successful at this point. This is one of the areas that we are seeking to be addressed by the State by the introduction of an additional tailored stimulus package.
