New Planning Director

David Corkill has taken the helm at Moreton Bay Regional Council as the Director of Planning replacing Mike Pickering, who acted in the role until December 2019.

David will oversee the critical elements of planning, including:

  • Development assessment
  • The planning scheme
  • Regional Growth Management Strategy
  • Caboolture West
  • Economic development.

The Institute and the Moreton Bay Branch President met with David to talk about our role and to discuss the branch’s priorities.

David provided an update on the Regional Growth Management Strategy (RGMS) 2041 and Caboolture West. Work is underway to prepare strategies and reports to inform planning for growth areas across the region. Collaboration with the Institute on the RMGS 2041 and Caboolture West will occur once the technical work has been completed.

Moreton Branch President Keith Cairns welcomed David in his new role and looks forward to working with him to advance growth opportunities in the region.

“The branch very much looks forward to working closely with David and Moreton Bay Regional Council on facilitating growth areas becoming available for development.

“The Moreton Bay region has a significant role in accommodating growth in SEQ and we need to ensure it is planned for and carried out in a logical and sustainable manner”

Moreton Bay Regional Council has appointed a manager of the Strategic Infrastructure Planning team. Stuart Piper will lead team that is intended to lead and coordinate the council’s LGIP and infrastructure planning.

The South East Queensland Regional Plan 2017 anticipates the Moreton Bay region will accommodate an additional 217,700 people and 88,300 dwellings by 2041.

We will update and seek members’ input on the RGMS 2041 and Caboolture West at the relevant stage.
