Ipswich City Council has released its draft North Ipswich Open Space Master Plan as a key project within Ipswich Central.

Utilising and leveraging the ample open and green space within Ipswich Central will be important to ensure the current and future residents have access to high quality and useable recreation areas.

The purpose of the master plan will set the strategic direction for the future sustainable development of the open space networks on the north banks of the Bremer River.

Seven precincts have been identified considering their distinct character and function each have within North Ipswich.

  1. Rail Yards
  2. Riverlink
  3. Sport Precinct
  4. Woollen Mill
  5. Cribb Park
  6. Bremer Street
  7. King Edward Parade (West).

The master plan will set out the vision and intent to guide future design and development of key open spaces along the Bremer River, being the dominant natural feature dissecting North Ipswich and the Ipswich CBD. Active transport corridors and linkages will be critical in allowing for pedestrian movements throughout Ipswich Central.

The Institute commends council’s work to date and its investment in resources to maximise the use of the existing open space and sport and recreation facilities. Access to quality green open space will support the region’s role in accommodating significant population growth through to 2041.
