MACKAY: Northern beaches transport focus needed urgently

The Mackay Whitsunday branch has called for an urgent response to Northern Beaches traffic in its submission on the proposed Mackay Regional Integrated Transport Strategy.

The submission called a local area transport plan for the Northern Beaches within three months to:

  • support current and planned growth
  • improve multi-modal access and network resilience
  • address Mackay Bucasia Road congestion.

The branch recognised the work undertaken for the strategy including the key overview and challenges around population growth as well as the economy reporting for the region in the document.

Also put forward were recommendations to establish and commit to transport targets to benchmark the current travel patterns and seek to improve future figures, consider micro mobility and active transport infrastructure, and define at an early stage with industry, implications for the LGIP. The branch submission is available here and further information here.
