Who our CEO met with in February.

1 February 2021, meeting with Economic Development Queensland: I meet regularly with Jason Camden who is Acting General Manager to discuss the ways that our industry can work with EDQ to create wonderful communities for Queenslanders.

3 February 2021, Planning System Reference Group: Chaired by the Deputy Director-General of Planning, the Reference Group includes representatives from several stakeholder groups. The purpose of the Group is to act as a sounding board for potential changes to policy and process as well as providing feedback from our members.

3 February 2021, meeting with member: Along with our Director of Member Services, I met with Leanne Lawrence and Sheree Taylor of Bluescope. Bluescope have been long-standing supporters of the Institute and I’m excited to continue partnering with this Australian icon in 2021.

4 February 2021, meeting with Brisbane City Council: I met with Nathan Percy, of the Lord Mayor’s Office. I meet regularly with council to discuss how we can work together to create a better Brisbane.

5 February 2021, meeting with member: I caught up with Graham Coles of Northrop. I always enjoy the chance to hear direct from members about the opportunities and challenges on the ground.

9 February 2021, meeting with David Janetzki, Deputy Leader of the Opposition: Along with State President, Warwick Bible, I met with Mr Janetzki. We discussed key issues affecting our members and the growing concerns over land supply within the South East corner.

10 February 2021, meeting with Minister for Transport, Mark Bailey: I met with Minister Bailey to discuss matters raised by our members. The Institute meets regularly with the Department of Transport and Main Roads to discuss pain points for the industry and we appreciate the Minister’s willingness to engage on these matters.

11 February 2021, meeting with UDIA National: I met with my UDIA National colleagues and other key stakeholders to discuss the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Act review. In an already complex area of regulation, the review has the potential to further complicate the regulatory landscape for the industry. I appreciate the opportunity to work with interstate colleagues to advocate for a simplified system that responds sensitively to our natural environment whilst enabling the creation of affordable communities for Queenslanders.

12 February 2021, meeting with Brisbane Airport Corporation: I met with Brisbane Airport’s new Executive General Manager, Commercial, Martin Ryan. The airport is an important part of Brisbane industrial landscape and it was valuable to understand Martin’s vision for the future.

12 February 2021, meeting with member: I met with Tanya Martin, from Lendlease. It is always valuable to understand the lay of the land direct from members and I really appreciate the chance to learn from Tanya’s on the ground experience.

12 February 2021, meeting with member: Along with our Director for Member Services, I met with Jess Caire of PEXA. As a member of the Institute and a valued partner, it was a great opportunity to meet with Jess and understand the opportunities and challenges facing PEXA in 2021.

16 February 2021, meeting with member: I caught up with the team from Hayes Anderson Lynch Architects for coffee. As the architects behind the award winning ONE Bulimba, Gerard and the team are crafting beautiful spaces for Queenslanders to enjoy for years to come.

16 February 2021, meeting with member: I met with Tim Forrester of Aria Property Group to discuss the program of work for the Industry Leaders Research Group. Aria has become an important part of the South East’s skyline and a vital voice in guiding the group’s research in 2021.

16 February 2021, meeting with Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning: I met with Damien Walker, the Director General of the Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning. I have always appreciated the state’s willingness to meet with the Institute in order to gauge the obstacles our members face in creating homes for Queenslanders. I look forward to continuing this collaboration with Mr Walker and his team.

17 February 2021, meeting with the Treasurer’s office: I met with a senior advisor to the Treasurer. We were incredibly grateful for the collaboration with Treasury last year in working through the implementation of the Federal HomeBuilder program and we look forward to working with Treasury as Queensland continues on the road to economic recovery.

18 February 2021, meeting with Moreton Bay Regional Council: Moreton Bay Branch President, Keith Cairns, and I met with Moreton Bay Regional Council to discuss the Institute’s Perfect Storm policy paper. Released last year, Perfect Storm highlighted the pending issue of land supply within South East Queensland. Moreton Bay is key to the solutions of this issue and I appreciate Morton Bay’s eagerness to engage with the industry on implementing solutions.

26 February 2021, meeting with member: We caught up with Frasers for an update on their Build to Rent projects in Queensland. Build to Rent is an increasingly important piece of the puzzle that is housing affordability.

26 February 2021, meeting with Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning: Along with other senior industry representatives, I met with the state to discuss the looming issue of land supply. The growth is coming and is only being hastened with the increase in interstate migration and our industry appreciates the state’s willingness to work towards solutions that will unlock supply.

26 February 2021, meeting with Brisbane City Council: I met with Isaac Coonan, BCC’s Senior Industry Development Manager to discuss Brisbane’s property technology framework.
