Easement entanglement

Improving the efficiency of putting in place easements for infrastructure was the focus of a submission to the Sunshine Coast Council.

The Institute sought reconsideration of the need for easements for water and sewer as Unitywater already has significant powers for access and protection of their water and sewer infrastructure.

In particular, we raised concerns about the time taken to implement easements through council processes. Providing an easement over open green space can take months for sign off and adds significantly to the costs of developing new homes for Sunshine Coast locals.

The Institute also offered to work with council on their arrangements for easements.
