Council announces Economic Recovery Group

Bundaberg Regional Council has responded to the Institute’s early letter outlining measures to ensure continuity for the local construction and development industry.

An Economic Recovery Group has been established that includes representatives from the local community. New members, Greensill Farming Group were selected to be part of this group and will ensure the branch’s priorities and initiatives are represented.

Council has confirmed they will continue to provide all regulatory and assessment services, albeit delivered electronically, via email or telephone. Essential inspections of building, civil and plumbing works will also continue with appropriate precautions in place to ensure the safety of council staff and customers.

Council has endorsed a package of relief measures to support residents and businesses affected by the Coronavirus emergency.

Support most relevant to our industry includes:

  • A moratorium on interest for outstanding rates and charges
  • Extend licences and permits for regulated premises by six months at no charge
  • Parking restrictions won’t be enforced
  • Trade waste fees and charges will be waived for six months.

The branch will continue working with council to ensure the property industry remains operational during COVID-19. We are currently drafting further correspondence highlighting aspects of our Project Bounce Back: Industry Action Plan.
