CEOs discuss priorities

Institute CEO Kirsty Chessher-Brown and Ipswich Branch President Sam Burgess met with Ipswich City Council’s CEO David Farmer and Interim Administrator, Greg Chemello on key Ipswich issues including the new Planning Scheme.

Members will recall the Institute wrote to council during consultation on the preliminary scheme raising numerous items, including growth areas in the region, infill and greenfield areas, lot size and densities, and other planning scheme matters.

The Independent Decision Review Panel and its function was also discussed. The Panel would function to consider specific development applications that, under the council’s relevant policy, require an independent assessment against the relevant planning instruments.

The Institute’s CEO Kirsty Chessher-Brown and Ipswich Branch President agreed with Council’s CEO David Farmer and Interim Administrator, Greg Chemello that an ongoing engagement on the planning scheme and development assessment items would occur with council’s development and strategic team on a more formal basis.

Members should note the finalised draft will not be completed prior to the local government election in March 2020.

The Ipswich Brach Committee looks forward to engaging with council in collaborative and ongoing forums and council’s future elected official in 2020. Any questions on the branch’s activity in the region. Please contact Policy Executive Robert Tily via email or on 3229 1589.
