Who our CEO met with in August.
1 August 2022, Meeting with Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water I met with representatives of the Federal Department of Environment to discuss the calculation of offsets under the Commonwealth Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. A review of the Act has been underway for some time, and I appreciated the opportunity to provide on the ground feedback gathered from our members to the Department.
5 August 2022, Branch Presidents Day along with Board members and Institute Staff, I caught up with our Regional Branch Presidents as part of the Annual Branch Presidents’ Day. Hosted by Mirvac on the rooftop space at Ascot Green, it was a chance to catch-up and thank our volunteer Branch Presidents for their dedication to the Institute and to our industry.
8 August 2022, Meeting with Nathan Percy, Brisbane City Council I met with Nathan from the Lord Mayor’s office to discuss how the Institute can work collaboratively with Council to deliver housing for Brisbane.
8 August 2022, Meeting with David Chick, Brisbane City Council David is the Divisional Manager for City Planning and Sustainability. Along with State President, Warwick Bible, we discussed the implementation of Council’s Green Buildings Incentive.
12 August 2022, Meeting with Finn Semple, Attorney General’s Office I caught up with Finn from the Attorney General’s office to discuss key matters within that portfolio, including the review of Management Rights, sunset clauses, and scheme terminations.
16 August 2022, meeting with Laura Bos, SCA I met with the recently appointed Executive Officer for SCA, Laura Bos. As a fellow industry body, the Institute has enjoyed a collaborative relationship with SCA and I look forward to continuing this work with Laura.
17 August 2022, meeting with member Emma O’Neill (Director of Member Services) and I caught up with Stuart Hancock from St.George. St.George have been members for over 20 years and I appreciated the opportunity to get up to speed on the challenges and opportunities faced by Stuart and his colleagues.
18 August 2022, meeting with Modus Capital I met with Mondus Capital, a new start-up in the consumer financing space. Our industry lends itself so well to innovation and I felt inspired by the opportunity to learn more about this new venture.
22 August 2022, meeting with Department of Justice and Attorney General Martin Zaltron (Manager of Policy) and I met with several representatives from the Department of Justice to discuss Management Rights and residential amenity in community titles schemes. There has been a significant amount of reform work undertaken in the community titles space over the last few years and we have greatly appreciated the Department’s willingness to engage with the Institute and our members. The current review of Management Rights is significant for many of our members, and we look forward collaborating with the Department on any reforms.
24 August 2022, Ministerial Construction Council I attended the Ministerial Construction Council on behalf of the Institute.
