WID invites all UDIA members and their guests to what promises to be a lively, informative and timely breakfast discussion about this question that impacts on everyone's lives.

Will we travel down a long winding yellow brick raod of working and saving towards owning our own home, to simply arrive at the other end to find it was just a dream?

What impact is housing affordability having on the way we live our lives? It determines so much from how long our children stay at home to be able to save for that deposit, to where our next masterplanned communities will be built, to what product developers will deliver.

Be on hand as our panel of experts including Matt Wallace, CEO Development Queensland - Mirvac; Diana Howes, Managing Director - Resolution Research; Rebecca Oelkers, Special Projects Manager - Brisbane Housing Company; Toby Lewis, Founder - Happy Hous, discuss how Housing Affordability will shape product, projects, location and lifestyle in 2010 and beyond.

With America now officially out of recession are we on the upward end of the V scale or, as some economists predict, is Queensland merely in the middle of a W and looking at a double dip recession whilst the rest of Australia prospers?

Saul Eslake is back to give his annual frank assessment of our future operating environment, offering a studied economic forecast for Australia, Queensland and the development industry for 2010 and beyond.

Saul joined the newly-established Grattan Institute, a 'think-tank' affiliated with the University of Melbourne in August 2009, as Director of its Productivity Growth program, after 14 years as Chief Economist at ANZ.  Saul is also currently a member of the Australian Government's National Housing Supply Council and had been a Director of the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute between 1997 and 2005.

This is the event that will give you the information youneed to approach 2010 with confidence.

How do we design homes and lifestyles for future Australians?

With an increase demand for affordable homes that deliver sustainability, there is ever increasing pressure on the industry to provide innovative solutions.  The Smarter Small home is one such solution, built using affordable material it has become one of the first affordable homes with a focus on sustainability.

At this, the first Urban Edge event for 2010, Kevin Doodney, award winning Principal for LJ Hooker Land Marketing, will share with you the journey of the Smarter Small House, from its conception to design to product selection to the completion and finally to sale.  Kevin is also currently working on a new project incorporating the use of concrete and will also exclusively share with you the journey of making this home a success.

This event will supply you with the knowledge of how to use sustainable and innovative designs to create a project that is stylish and very affordable in today's market.
