Meet the Winners: The Inaugural CEO’s Award for Excellence
The who’s who of the Queensland property development industry came together for the Urban Development Institute of Australia (Qld) Mitchell Brandtman Awards for Excellence in Brisbane on November 4 to celebrate 2016’s leading developments across Queensland.
Over the coming weeks we’ll take you behind the scenes on each of the winning projects to see why they have earned a coveted UDIA (Qld) Award for Excellence in 2016.
The Village by Economic Development Queensland took out the inaugural CEO’s Award, chosen from the best regional development projects outside of South East Queensland.
The Village is located on an 83 hectare site in the suburb of Oonoonba, just 3.5km from Townsville’s CBD and was also a finalist in the Affordable Housing category.
When complete The Village will have approximately 1000 lots and welcome a diverse range of people to the community.
UDIA (Qld) CEO Marina Vit said The Village tackles a key issue for regional Queensland – affordability and diversity of housing choice.
“Providing housing on lots from as small as 70 square metres, with exceptional community parklands and a range of housing options all at affordable price points, The Village is forging new frontiers for the development industry, the community and local government,” Ms Vit said.
The Village masterplanned community delivers house and land options that are ideal for both renters and owner-occupiers and have been popular with first home buyers and young families who want to live close to the city but have previously been priced out of the market.
EDQ’s vision for the site was to maximise liveability by incorporating urban design principles that enhance community interaction and encourage people to use the parks and open spaces.
