How did you get involved in the development industry?

As lawyers, we’re professional advisers and specialise in various services. We do a lot of work within the industry on matters like planning and environment and building and construction.

Why did you become a member of the UDIA Queensland?

It relates to our work and we also wanted to learn from and network with other professionals within the industry. As a member of the UDIA Queensland we’ll have the opportunity to stay abreast and involved in matters relating to planning legislation and keep up to date with industry news.

Tell us about the latest trends you are seeing within the industry.

Land sales are still buoyant but unit developments near the city are slowing. However, we’re seeing more foreign investors purchasing luxury units. There is also a greater emphasis on sustainability, particularly in South East Queensland.

Where do you see the property development industry in the next ten years?

Continuing to grow as more people migrate to Queensland influencing demand. However, rapid growth areas could stabilise as the market settles slightly.

What advice would you give young professionals starting in the industry?

Find a good mentor and trust your instincts. Listen, research, and plan. Take every opportunity to learn who others in the industry are and make sure they know who you are. And lastly, obtain work experience as soon as possible and seek to gain experiences with various parties to develop a well-rounded understanding.
