Waterfront development now under review

Recently, the Mackay Regional Council held a public notification and information session regarding the proposed Priority Development Area (PDA) Development Scheme for the Mackay Waterfront. The purpose of the information session was to provide details to attendees on the development scheme’s structure and mechanics as well as highlighting the development intentions and provisions.

The proposed development scheme has been prepared by Mackay Regional Council, in consultation with Economic Development Queensland and relevant state agencies. The proposed scheme is available for review here and a hard copy can be obtained from all of the council’s customer service centres.

The proposed development scheme once adopted, will be the single planning document for the PDA replacing the original and will set out the land uses, development criteria and infrastructure envisaged for the PDA. The proposed development scheme is not intended as a masterplan or marketing document for the Mackay Waterfront PDA.  It provides a regulatory framework to support and facilitate the broader PDA vision and development/investment outcomes that seek to take advantage of opportunities identified and delivered through the future Mackay Waterfront masterplan.

Representatives of the UDIA Queensland Mackay Whitsunday Branch were in attendance and have now received a copy of the draft PDA Development Scheme. The Branch’s committee is currently reviewing the draft scheme and invites members to provide feedback they feel is relevant to the proposal and potential submission. If you would like to provide feedback to the branch regarding this proposed PDA Development Scheme, please email before 19 December 2018.
