Deputy Prime Minister at Mackay event

The Mackay Whitsunday Branch welcomed the Honourable Michael McCormack MP, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport to its latest event.

The Deputy Prime Minister spoke about the government’s role in diversifying regional capital cities, how to bring people out of the cities and into regional areas, and affordability of residential properties in regional capital cities.

His key points hit on:

  • Need for the Federal Government to invest in regional infrastructure
  • Need to ensure the funds in the Northern Australia Fund start getting used for projects to commence
  • He discussed the benefits of affordability, liveability, and lifestyle in regional cities (as compared to congested and expensive capital cities)
  • He talked about being keen to help fund the Mackay Waterfront PDA
  • He noted 1600 job vacancy ads in Mackay – less than 4% unemployment for Mackay.

The Deputy Prime Minister also said he really enjoyed his visit to Mackay and thrilled to see all the development activity happening.
