Branch win for pre-lodgement
Gold Coast Logan Branch recorded a solid win with City of Gold Coast and the branch working together to improve pre-lodgement meeting services.
As a result of the branch approaching council in October with a range of concerns about the DA process, council have now committed to:
A dedicated Technical Pre-lodgement Meeting Officer
The planner assigned to the pre-lodgement meeting to contact the applicant 24 hours prior to advise of the key issues
A dedicated pre-lodgement meeting room which includes relevant IT equipment
Receiving structured agenda questions from the applicant.
A good pre-lodgement process can clearly set the ground rules early for a development, that avoids later delays both for council and the industry. Reduced costs in this area helps developers keep costs down for homebuyers and the community.
Branch President Sean Sandford said the branch had been working hard on a range of DA matters with council. He said it was great to see council responding to the branch’s recommendations.
In early October, the branch wrote to council about issues with the Development Assessment process. It highlighted a range of points including suggestions for an improved pre-lodgement process.
Aspects raised included the need for:
Improved minute taking
Commitment to agreements made during the pre-lodgement
Use of additional technology to aid in delivering the pre-lodgement
