Toowoomba 2017/18 budget released
Toowoomba Regional Council announced its $475 million 2017/18 budget. Infrastructure spending in the region was a big highlight with $125 million to be invested in local roads, footpaths, and bikeways.
Here is a snapshot of spending for the year:
$8.6 million to the Mort Street upgrade
$4.6 million to the Boundary Street upgrade to provide additional connectivity from the Torrington Industry Precinct to the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing
$6 million to the Gap Road upgrade project
$6 million to the upgrade of the Nass Road
$15 million to road renewal projects.
Additionally, Councillor Chris Tate says the Development Services branch and Development Engineering and Plumbing Services branches will focus on implementation of the new Planning Act 2016.
In preparation for ensuring that development assessment timeframes under the new Act are met, council will be introducing a regular Special Meeting of Council, which will replace the former Development Assessment Panel (DAP) process.
