Peter has been involved in the property development industry for 17 years working for national and overseas property development companies in senior positions covering all aspects of residential developments.

Peter started his career as estimator and supervisor with construction company Wilson industries. After a year he got a job with John Connell & Associates (now Connell Wagner).

His international experience includes working for Barclay Bros Construction in Port Moresby, Willing and Partners Consulting Engineers and later with Cardno and Davies Consulting Engineers.

Settling back in Brisbane, Peter took on the role of ‘Land Development Manager’ with Peter Kurts Properties where he worked for 8 years and promoted to general manager of residential developments when the company became Forrester Kurts Properties.

Peter continued this trend in working for the big companies, going on to work with Delfin Lend Lease as Project Director of Springfield Lakes and state manager, apartments for Stockland.

In 2007 Peter launched an integrated property development company Excel Development Group alongside business partner Reg Rowe, founder of the successful retail chain Super Cheap Auto.

Peter has been involved with the UDIA for years. He has held positions on the UDIA QLD state council since 1993 including the position of Vice President and President (2004-2006). He has been on the UDIA national council since 2004, elected Vice President in 2006.

“UDIA is the preeminent development industry association that local, state, and federal government can approach to seek the views of the industry. National is going to be a big challenge because we have such different planning legislation around Australia and a whole host of different issues although it is surprising that the key issues are similar. I’ll try to elevate those key issues. Land supply is a big one and climate change legislation and how that’s going to impact our industry. I suppose what I really want to do is continue to grow our profile at the federal level.”

“I would like to acknowledge Stephen Holmes for his accomplishments over the past two years as UDIA National President. The past 12 month has been a difficult time for the industry. Under Stephen’s leadership, UDIA have been able to represent the industry on major policy debates and be involved in consultation processes on taxation and broadband.”

“I will continue to ensure that UDIA National effectively represented the industry on these issues to push for consistency throughout the states on development approval processes and application of infrastructure charges.”

In 2010, UDIA national have set their policy focus to continue working constructively with the government and industry to improve planning and approval systems to enable more economical developments to be produced.
